Making your own muffin cases is super easy and gives muffins a professional finish without the cost. All you need is baking paper, a pencil and a ruler.

The other day, my local supermarket ran out of muffin cases, so I decided to make my own. It's way cheaper, and although it takes a little time, you can't tell the difference unless you look closely! This tutorial was inspired by the British chef Lorraine Pascale in one of her brilliant cookery books.
To Make 12 Muffin Cases
- Use a ruler to cut out 12cm x 12cm squares of baking paper until you have 12.
- Grease a 12-hole muffin tin with butter. You could also use oil spray, but I find that butter works best.
- Place one piece of paper into one muffin cup, pressing firmly with your fingers along the creases - this can be a bit fiddly and requires a little patience to make them stick! If you have a round object that fits the muffin hole, it becomes easier to push the paper down.
- Scoop the batter into the cases and bake as usual.
That's it! You now have 12 professional-looking muffin cases!
