Making your own Muffin Cases is straightforward and gives muffins a professional finish without the cost. All you need is baking paper, a pencil and a ruler.
The other day, my local store ran out of muffin cases, so I decided to make my own. It's way cheaper, and although it takes a little time, you can't tell the difference unless you look closely! This tutorial was inspired by Lorraine Pascale in one of her brilliant cookery books.
To Make 12 Muffin Cases
- Use a ruler to cut out 12cm x 12cm squares of baking paper until you have 12.
- Grease a 12-hole muffin tin with butter. You could also use oil spray, but I find that butter works best.
- Place one piece of paper into one muffin cup, pressing firmly with your fingers along the creases - this can be a bit fiddly and requires a little patience to make them stick! If you have a round object that fits the hole, this makes it easier to push it down.
- Scoop the batter into the cases and bake as usual. An ice cream scoop is a great tool for this.
That's it! You now have 12 professional-looking muffin cases!
