Running out of caster sugar mid-bake is easily fixed with a Thermomix. All you need is regular white sugar.

This is part of my Thermomix basics series which focuses on simple pantry staples and kitchen essentials you can make at home in your Thermomix. From Thermomix icing sugar to DIY self-raising flour, these homemade basics save you time, money, and a trip to the supermarket.
Why You'll Love This Method
- More economical - home brand white sugar works out significantly cheaper per kg than caster sugar.
- Convenient - if you have white sugar stored in the pantry, you will never run out of caster sugar again.
Storage
As with all sugars, store in a cool, dry place.

Servings: 200 g
Ingredients
- 200 g regular white sugar see notes
Instructions
- Add the white sugar to the Thermomix bowl and mix for 2 sec/speed 8.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
Notes
- The result won't look identical to store-bought caster sugar - it may differ in texture and appear whiter. Commercial caster sugar is milled to a precise grain size using industrial equipment, which a Thermomix can't replicate exactly. It still works just as well in baking.
- For best results, process 200g of white sugar at a time.
- White sugar is white sugar - supermarket home brand works just as well and costs significantly less.
- In the UK, regular white sugar is typically labelled as granulated sugar.
