Cooking white rice in the Thermomix is simple, reliable, and completely hands-free. The simmering basket allows the rice to gently steam as it cooks, giving you fluffy, perfectly cooked rice every time.
White rice is perfect for all sorts of meals. For fried rice, it's best if the rice is cold. See my tips below for chilling and storing it safely.

FEATURED REVIEW
Great recipe, works every time! I halved the rice and kept the water and cooking time the same and it came out perfect. Love this easy recipe.
CAITLIN
This Method Works For:
- Long grain white rice.
- Medium grain white rice.
- Short grain white rice.
⭐️ For brown rice, see my separate recipe on How to Cook Brown Rice in the Thermomix.
Step-by-Step Directions

Weigh & Rinse
Insert the simmering basket and weigh in the rice. Remove the basket and rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear.

Cook
Add the water to the TM bowl, then return the simmering basket with the rinsed rice. Cook for 18-22 mins/100°C/speed 4. Check the rice is cooked through. If needed, cook for a few more minutes.
How to Store Leftover Cooked Rice
Cold, day-old rice is perfect to use in fried rice recipes. To keep it safe to eat, cooked rice should be cooled and refrigerated as quickly as possible. If left at room temperature for too long, bacteria can develop.
To cool it quickly, spread the rice out on a baking tray or large container. Once cold, cover and refrigerate. Use within 1-2 days.
If not using it for fried rice, reheat in the microwave until piping hot, stirring halfway through.

Hi Vicki!
Wendi again- so i figured it out. for those of us where the rice didn’t cook at all- we are probably in the IS operating on Fahrenheit- you being in Australia? are likely on Celsius. 😂 problem solved.
Vicki says
Phew! So glad it eventually worked out Wendi! Best wishes Vicki.

Hi Vicky, If I want to reduce the recipe to say 150g, would I just reduce the amount of water by 1/2 as well?
Thanks!
Vicki says
Hi Julie, I always keep the water level the same when reducing quantities. Best regards, Vicki

Hi Vicki,
I'm looking at getting a TM5, so just wondering if this is doable in a TM5, or are your recipes for TM6 only?
Thank you 🙂
Vicki says
Hi Ali, all the recipes work in the TM31, TM5 and TM6. Best wishes Vicki.
